It's not the gift that counts
We are vegging out today-- recovering from all the traveling to family for the holiday yesterday and the day before. Hubby's watching football, a game I am only mildly interested in. The little guy is playing with his christmas presents. He had a great time opening and enjoying his presents. I am feeling very blessed with my lot in life despite what shaped up to be a rather tough year. My family is well and happy and we are together for now until next week when kids go back to school and their homes away from home.
I couldn't really get into gifts for me this year. I spent so much time getting things for those I love and found a few small things for myself along the way. Nothing terrible expensive, just fun little cute things I found and that's all I wanted. My hubby, I'm sure, was terribly mystified since usually I am very clear that I want something very special from him. Somehow that made me feel special to him. After over ten years together, I think I may have gotten to the point where I know I'm special to him and don't need some little gift "test" to prove it to myself.
Hubby took our son shopping and they picked out some earrings for me. The little guy was sooo excited. He kept whispering to my hubby about where the gift was? could he wrap it? where can we hide it? All the while shooting me looks like "can she hear me?" I just played dumb and smiled at his effort to make this a good surprise for me. Of course, I was very excited when I opened them and let him know I was very proud of his great choice and wonderful wrapping job. My hubby told me he had started by picking out some huge hoops and crazy wild things with feathers and such and that he'd had to guide him to these more sedate ones. I had to laugh since Hubby himself has been known to buy me coyote earrings numerous times before I convinced him to stop. A girl really only needs one pair of coyote earrings!
